After graduating almost ten years ago from the Victorian College of the Arts, with a bourgeoning interest in psychology, Ashlee continued into post graduate studies to become an art psychotherapist. During her time as a practicing therapist and with a fondness for (over)analysing, she gained a large social media following as she reflected on themes surrounding ‘the body’ and authored her first book ‘The Art of Body Acceptance’.
During the past few years, Ashlee has returned to her fine art roots carrying the experience of therapeutic practice; often witnessing the softest and most raw aspects of being human. Ashlee currently uses clay sculpture to explore the shared human experience of ‘emotional sites(states)’, where familiar objects like our beds, blankets, couches, and baths, offer us a container to feel our realness. Her sculptures ask us to almost revere these seemingly mundane private moments to remember our emotionality, and it use it as a form of somatic wisdom.
