Edwige Bonafous

My artwork is designing feminine silhouettes, vibrant abstract art, surrealist paintings and colourful friendly animals.
I draw my inspiration from concentration, contemplation and poetical visions in my daily life originating in:
- fashion illustration and its classic ageless elegance
- graphic patterns and body curves
- sculptures
- abstraction and surrealism as a kind of "Free Dance on canvas" with colourful acrylic painting filled with ENERGETIC LIGHT
- animals because they touch my heart and soul.

Passionate about the arts and poetry, I had an epiphany for PAINTING upon admiring the great impressionist painter Edgar Degas' beautiful and colourful "BAIGNEUSES" (Bathers) who were a turning point in my life.

I began drawing in pastel and my artwork was mainly figurative before using acrylic for more EXPLOSIVE COLOUR and geometrical abstraction. I recently started using colour pencil and marker to experiment new sensations on paper.

My all-time favorites are Toulouse-Lautrec, Monet, Manet, Renoir, Modigliani, Matisse, Gustave Caillebotte, Joan Miro, Paul Signac, Sonia Delaunay, Gustav Klimt, Gerhard Richter, Kees van Dongen, Roy Lichtenstein, Edmond Kiraz, Edward Hopper.

Self-taught artist born in Paris.
As an art lover and a regular visitor of exhibitions and museums in Europe and beyond, these cultural institutions became to me 'home sweet home' and shaped my artistic and emotional education.
My favorite one in LONDON : Sir John Soane's museum, a spectacular curiosity cabinet.

I studied literature and languages (English, German, Spanish and Italian) at the Sorbonne and traveled the world to admire its magnificent arts and cultures, and to get colourful inspiration from amazing places:

Frida Kahlo's casa azul in Coyoacan, the Majorelle Art Déco Yves Saint Laurent villa in Marrakech, Franck Lloyd Wright's Prairie Houses in Chicago, Salvador da Bahia with its colourful houses and athletic capoeira dancers, Yoga Barn in Bali for a holistic immersion into the soul of nature.
