Paula Segarra (Valencia, Spain, 1986) Paula works in figurative painting and drawing with organic forms. She creates images with a single protagonist who inhabits a theatrical space, either recontextualized in a symbolic landscape or by creating a stage set within the physical framework of the work. These protagonists are primarily animals, as her work focuses on how sociocultural constructs influence human behavior. They metaphorically represent our primal animality. Like visual fables, the viewer can find themselves reflected in Paula's collection of bestiaries. Her paintings combine a latent tenderness and aggression to address challenging themes such as sexuality, morality, death, and freedom. Her images invite us to reconnect with instinct and identify any culturally imposed limitations.
