Irene Neno Diaz

Irene Neno Diaz is a Mexican, American artist. Also known as Neno, her photograhy and paintings are in private collections in Mexico, Canada, Greece and the United States. She lives and works in San Antonio, Texas.

Art Statement

Cleaning a narrow well as a child is what started it all. From the beginning the process of using my eyes to see light as I looked up to the sky was an escape from darkness. Transforming light into a rainbow of brilliant images created a vehicle for inner vision to outer reality. My work focus on the environment and my Hispanic culture, The remains of fiestas, confetti, parades, confetti, papel picado, all scattered into ready-made, used to unify the abstract works. The destruction of man, the development of bigger houses, shopping centers, are the consequence it is having on nature and wildlife. Inspired and invigorated and in awed by the magic of how creation occurs is what moves my eyes to recapture what once belonged to the earth. I put myself in danger by trespassing into work sites to document what is happening on the beautiful landscape of the hill country in Texas.
