My work is about the construction of a narrative. I am interested in the tradition of story-telling and the subversive undertones that can be found in many folk stories. I often construct my own story lines, visualising contemporary fairy tales that explore modern society. I try to raise questions as to what is happening in each image and why, and attempt to mix the aesthetically pleasing with the unsettling and the unknown. In my portraits, I try to represent the personality of the sitter by exploring each individual's feelings and emotions. It is less about facial likeness and more about an emotional understanding of their character.
