Anastasia Zinkerman is a pastel artist and nature photographer whose landscapes and still lifes capture the quiet, inspirational beauty of her favorite places: coastal Connecticut, where she lives, as well as the woods and mountains of Vermont and New Hampshire, where she also spends a great deal of time. She achieves a tranquil mood by using textured paper and a soft technique, and she favors a muted palette that sets off one or two bright colors—the red skin of an apple, or green stalks of sea grass. “I love the colors of nature: a moody gray sky above a tidal marsh in Connecticut, with green and gold sea grass bending in the breeze; or tall, dark pines surrounding a calm lake in New Hampshire. I am fascinated by how these landscapes constantly change, depending on the weather and time of day. I find myself at peace and more connected with the world when I’m in a beautiful environment. Showing details does not interest me as much as conveying the feeling of being in a place. I consider my work a success when viewers comment that they feel relaxed and at peace with themselves.” Anastasia Zinkerman was born in Branchburg, NJ. After receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, she moved to New York City, where she lived and worked as an artist for several years. Her work has been exhibited in galleries throughout New York City, as well as in Buffalo, NY, Newark, NJ, and New Brunswick, NJ. Anastasia’s work has also appeared in several publications, including The Complete Mosaic Handbook, Quintet Publishing, Log & Timber magazine, “Artisan File,” and publications by the Connecticut Audubon Society. She currently lives in Fairfield, CT, and studies at Silvermine Arts Center. Her artwork has recently been shown at Silvermine Gallery, Fairfield History Museum, Bruce Kershner Gallery, Pequot Library, and the Mark Twain Library
