About the Artist

Peter Wise

United States

I was born in 1950 in New Mexico and have had a lifelong interest in the visual arts although my field of study in college was English. I have lived in Massachusetts for 30 years and it is a very rich environment in terms of the visual arts. My other interests are European history, especially the Weimar Period in Germany, and English literature. These converge in my fascination with Dadaism. I also paint oils. I make every attempt to use archival acid-free materials in my montages but using found images and so forth does not always allow this. However, I use only acid-free media to mount and varnish, as well as archival supports for images I use.Updating in 2015, my direction remains much the same although I have developed an interest in using oxidized steel as both a support and integral to the image affixed to it, usually magnetically, affording the ability to change the affixed images or shuffle them if multiple images are on the surface, were by allowing the views owner to disrupt the narrative, much like a film editor.
