I was born in Caracas in 1958. I started studying philosophy at the UCV in Venezuela, but at 18 I knew that painting for me was the most important thing.
I started by copying and drawing everything around me. I drew the knots and roots, I had an obsession with that ... they were like tensions, I was not interested in drawing them exactly and that was dissolving in a space, they were like pendants and fell.
The important experience for my painting starts from the watercolor, drawing first and then painting. The watercolor gave me the possibility of working the acrylic, I started as a figurative and I was transformed when I saw Rothko in an exhibition in Spain, I left a vibration that I froze, I felt a great bond and I started to totally lose the reference of the drawing .
Currently I work the oil and acrylic looking for transparency, using thin layers.
When I start a work there is a ritual, prepare for where to pull up. For me every day have to do with color. When I get to my workshop I feel ... it's like the one that comes to a kitchen and wants to prepare an inspired dish with the flavors and aromas, for me the color is the reference. Sometimes inspiration is not achieved, but I always need music to paint. I love Miles...
I went to Spain in 1978 to study and Eduardo Capa, who was the founder of the great master sculptor Chillida, guides me to study art at the Official School of Arts and Ceramics in Madrid, and I was also at Faenza Studio and later at Studio of Arjona in Madrid. I continued my training as a plastic artist at the Azara Studio in Caracas, Venezuela.
The most influential artists were Chagall, Van Gogh, and the Fauvistas, as well as German Expressionism, but my greatest influence is the Latin American art of Rufino Tamayo, the Mexican muralists, Remedios Varo, and so on.
