Lady Redhorns is a modern artist based in Mexico known for her vibrant, expressive acrylic paintings. Born and raised in Siberia, Lady spent most of her life there before taking her first steps as a self-taught painter in 2018. She made a conscious decision to reject the standards of Russian art education, which often aim to impose a uniform ideal of perfection and categorize art as either "right" or "wrong." Lady Redhorns' early works were heavily influenced by her childhood, which left a profound mark on her artistic expression. Her first internationally recognized paintings featured numerous depictions of skulls, inspired by difficult childhood memories. Additionally, her childhood love for Barbie dolls shaped a phase of her art focused on creating images of female silhouettes. Moving to Mexico infused her work with bright new colors and motifs, drawing inspiration from the surrounding nature and the transformative experience of immigration. An interesting aspect of Lady Redhorns' biography is her 20-year career as an athlete. She began in cross-country skiing and biathlon and went on to win multiple European and World Championship titles in winter triathlonand became a medalist in various mountain biking and extreme adventure racing competitions. In 2014, she became the Russian champion in sled dog racing with her Siberian husky. Tragically, her dog developed cancer and passed away shortly after their victory. These experiences resonate in her series In My Darkness, which revisits the early theme of skulls. But soon after this episode, Lady returned to creating intricate paintings filled with bright colors.
