Patrick Harrop is a, multimedia and electronic artist, licensed architect and a professor of architecture at Laurentian University | Universite Laurentienne in Sudbury, Canada. Patrick Harrop’s artistic practice is a research / creation based synthetic exploration of the material impact of technology both in the historical canon of architectural work as well as the engagement with contemporary technology. His work is explored through a variety of mediums, often in hybridity, including installation, constructions, light, sound, video art and traditional and hybrid drawing. His work reflects perceptual and dynamic phenomenon, informed and influenced by the philosophy of technology, the history of architecture and the early modern history of technology. His research specialty is in emerging technology and design with a particular emphasis in electromechanical hacking, digital fabrication and open-source maker culture. His work has been shown in Montreal, Busan, Budapest, Shanghai, Berlin, London, Vancouver and Winnipeg. He is currently a member artist and administrative member of Perte de Signal, artist run centre in Montreal.
