Jennifer White was born in Syracuse, NY. Her mother Nancy Sherman, an independent thinker/ trendsetter, owned fashion boutiques and set the style found in each. Nancy was Jennifer's role model and brought her up in the world of art, retail merchandising, and design. Summers were spent working in Nancy’s Nantucket Island boutique, with winters in the New York store. Jennifer has been painting as long as she can remember. By the age of twelve she had won the Scholastic Award in upstate NY for her work. This provided the opportunity to travel with other artists at a young age. From that point she was passionate about art and the dream led her to the University of California at Berkeley and her master’s degree in painting.with mentors Joan Brown and Elmer Bischoff. Currently, Jennifer spends most her time with artists, musicians, and filmmakers, with some artists even sharing her Southern California studio as “artist’s in residence”. An additional and distinguished part of Jennifer’s art career was the influence she obtained while living in Guatemala where she studied back-strap weaving and taught art. This inspiring time in her life imprints a distinctive mark on her choice of colors, lines. and interest in indigenous cultures. Over the years her connection to and affiliation with the art world has provided Jennifer with many artistic collaborations. She has worked on community service projects with organizations like, “Make a Wish Foundation”, and other fund raising projects that included the auctioning of her art. Her unique choices in showings have remained landmarks in Jennifer's career. Many times her art is displayed in unexpected public places. These highlights include, “The Millennium Show” in tandem with the “Absolut L.A. International Biennial” in Los Angeles. Other highlights include her show, “Art Contemporian” at Galerie Everarts in Paris. Additionally, in 1991 Jennifer curated the first American contemporary exhibition with Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg (then Leningrad), Russia. In the 2000's she founded the an extensive 10 year collaboration "Global Women Project " which is shown internationally of which an oversized coffee table book was also published on the work. She continues today in Los Angeles on a new collaboration incorporating video storytelling woth collages going around the world in LA.
