Miri Fanan

My work articulates my internal reality. My paintings are born from introspection, sometimes building upon rich colors and sometimes stark black or brown and white. I often use collages created from meaningful colorful newspapers and journals as well as a variety of fabrics and other textural materials. My paintings are characterized by full strokes showing what I believe is both strength and courage, evoking an expressive style, one whose origins lie in a sense of peace during the creative process yet showing daring, change, and the constant discovery of new ideas. One could say that the layers of color in my paintings symbolize layers of questioning and doubt.

My sculpture is strong and expressive - the solidity demonstrating how life and the living of life is stronger than the difficulties and pains encountered along the way. I sculpt in a variety of media including stone, bronze and even cement. I find sculpting allows me to express quickly and definitively my inner feelings.

The viewer of my artwork, in all its rich interpretations,
is meant to undergo a process of amassing different meanings and interpretations of different personalities, a process similar to that which I myself have undergone.
