Kwitonda Olivier

Olivier Kwitonda is a self-taught visual artist based in Kigali, Rwanda. From a young age, an innate artistic curiosity drove him to transcend daily challenges and envision future possibilities through painting. His formal career began in 2009 as an apprentice at Urumuri Arts, where he diligently trained while supporting his younger brothers as a teenager. In 2013, he joined Yego Art in Kigali, showcasing his diverse semi-abstract, naïve, mixed media, and acrylic works in numerous exhibitions alongside local and international artists. Notable achievements include a first prize at the 2014 "My Democracy" art exhibition at the Kigali US Embassy and participation in the 2014 Imago Mundi project, which led to his art being exhibited in Venice, Italy. Driven by a vision nurtured through his own artistic success, Kwitonda poured the fruits of his brushstrokes into establishing Inkingi Arts Space – a testament to his self-made journey and a vibrant hub for Rwanda's creative future. His art often provides social commentary on Rwandan history, the dynamism of daily life, and the experiences of African artists.
