Ria Boer-Degen

My name is Ria Boer-Degen, I am married to Henk and together we have two adult sons and also two grandchildren.
Drawing has been a favorite activity since childhood and also at the kindergarten teacher training it was one of my favorite subjects and I developed myself thanks to a fantastic drawing teacher, Mr. Noren.
Years after that I was no longer active in drawing and painting.
In 1991 I became a member of a painting and drawing group. We were taught by different artists and that's how I did get acquainted with different techniques.
Over the years I have developed my own style. My examples are August Macke and Piet Mondriaan. Macke’s art I admire because of the use of balanced color and with Mondriaan I took the step to geometric work. Where Mondrian followed the abstract path, I continued to work figuratively.
I get my inspiration from that which animates me, what touches me in a quote, a song text, a reflection or a dream image and I depict that in a painting.
