Sophie Geider

Sophie Geider spent her childhood between the beaches and landscapes of Gauguin, the sea and the colorful exoticism of Polynesia. Today she lives in Marseille because she finds some of this sweetness of life. From a very young age she drew a lot and attended many workshops where she found her style: a feminine painting, soft, soothing, large colorful canvases that make us dream and invite us to travel. Women are lascivious, they rest or fall asleep, it is the shimmering colors and the embroidered and very worked fabrics that make them vibrate make them alive. Often they are out of frame. Sophie gives us to see, or not, as if she was not telling the whole story so that we can imagine the future. Sometimes they support each other, touch each other, respond to each other, but they always echo each other, between canvases. The sea and nature are also very present in his work, especially in connection with part of his work with the practice of surfing, another of his passions.

His masters are Gauguin of course, for his unique colors and the strength that emanates from his artistic path. Bonnard also for his golden colors, and his surprising framing, Maurice Denis and the Nabis movement. Joaquim Sorolla for the light and delicacy that inhabits his paintings. Sensitive to the precious and sacred side of painting, Sophie is an admirer of the work of Gustav Klimt and Odilon Redon. Among the contemporaries, she adores the more refined work on blacks and the material of Pierre Soulages, as well as the breath of the canvases of Fabienne Verdier, Asian in soul. The work of Bram Van Velde, a Dutch painter of another time for whom painting was an act of infinite purity, deeply moved him. She works with inks and watercolor for small formats, and acrylic for canvases. She also explores work with different wood species as a support for expression or framing.
