Laurent Maillart

I strive to materialize passion for design, passion for automotive sports, passion for beautiful objects. In my approach art can express beauty, desire, and can be full of joy.

The easy part when I evoke sports cars, is that they’re already speed sculptures as such, and most of the people already view them as pieces of art. I try to not only capture the external beauty of cars but also convey the spirit, emotion, and stories behind these powerful machines. In this attempt to sublimate the reality, I only keep the lines that define the ADN of the model. This trait marks the difference with scale models. In the latter proportions are kept rigorously precise, while I take all freedom to accentuate and modify some aspects of the model, provided it gives an impression of speed and fluidity.

The difficult part is that these simple, pure lines hide a lot of complexity. It can take many, many trials and errors before I’m satisfied with the result. It takes also a huge amount of work assembling, polishing, repairing surfaces in order to achieve a clean result, and it took also a lot of time mastering new design and creation techniques.
