I am building a process to express my understanding of self and place. This also gives me a vehicle to explore why it is that certain places and certain works by artists have such an emotional and everlasting impact.

This means my work is essentially an autobiographical thread.

My new work starts with a response to a location or a painting by another artist that I have come to know. As the work emerges my focus turns to my response and the process itself. The challenge is how to articulate these aspects in the work using three physical elements of colour, light and surface.

I studied fine art at Sunderland and Bristol schools of art in the 1970s and 1980s. I started teaching art in. 2006 and qualified as a teacher specialising in art practice in 2010.

I tend to exhibit occasionally. Usually in open shows. My studio is also a showroom for my work and is open every day. My work is mostly in the hands of private collectors and some is on permanent public display.
