Elke Walter

Elke Walter was born and raised in a small German town on the North Sea coast. Today she's living and working in Provence.

For many years Elke Walter has been known for her bold fashion design, unique creations with their daring and eye-catching appearance.

3 years ago she broadend her creative spectrum and started making fabric sculptures. What in the beginning was a way of documenting her fabric work finally became a passion: photography.

Elke discovered fabrics by chance while living in Montpellier, France. This was the spontaneous start of her devotion to fabrics. Having never worked with this medium before, Elke was - and still is in everything she's creating- entirely self-taught. Her basic premise: a good fabric has all it needs as a medium to create sculptural work.

Always pushing the boundaries, from the beginning Elke’s work explored the possibilities of manipulating her medium, adding dimensions by twisting, turning, stretching, and creating shapes that seem as if to be born out of a cosmic reef, where the objects seem to move gently with the tide...
