Joanna Szumska

Joanna Szumska (b. 1965, Otwock, Poland) is a painter whose work explores the interplay between humanity and nature, often through both figurative and abstract forms. She graduated from the State Secondary School of Fine Arts in Warsaw in 1985 and began her creative career working in stage design at the Baj Theatre. Later, she practiced graphic design and interior design, but painting remained her true artistic medium.

Szumska draws her inspiration from nature, music, poetry and the rhythm of urban life. Working primarily in oil and acrylic on canvas, her paintings balance between organic abstraction, landscapes and dreamlike figurative compositions. Each artwork is the result of extended artistic inquiry, conceived as a journey in which color and emotion guide the final form. Her work seeks to offer viewers moments of reflection, joy, and emotional resonance.

State Secondary School of Fine Arts, Warsaw (Państwowe Liceum Sztuk Plastycznych w Warszawie), graduated 1985 – foundation in traditional and expressive artistic disciplines.

Early professional experience includes stage design at the Baj Theatre in Warsaw, which informed her understanding of space, narrative and theatrical composition.
