Lumina Wang

Lumina Wang, based in Paris, is a painter and actress from Taiwan. Fascinated by the dramatic arts and mythology, her pictorial universe is shaped by symbolic signs and the intrigue of dramatic narratives. Her paintings are marked by a playful ambiguity: she uses the language of childhood to explore complex and psychological themes such as family secrets, nostalgia, childhood trauma, hidden or assumed femininity, interpersonal relationships, passion, and all forms of love and sexuality. Rich in metaphors and sensuality, each painting by Lumina Wang tells a story or creates a new myth.

Painting in a free and intuitive manner, she follows her subconscious and primal instincts. At times, however, she may begin to analyze her aesthetic choices — the nature of the colors she uses or the characters she portrays — gradually connecting these submerged elements to ultimately construct a coherent narrative. For Lumina Wang, the act of painting is akin to a psychoanalytic process. Frequently, a moment of trance accompanies a heightened sensitivity, with inspiration drawn from the hidden lives of others or her own personal story.
