Zhanna Tsytsyn (b. 1983) she/her - is a Siberian artist (born in Siberia, immigrating to America at 9 years of age and currently based in the Portland Metro Area, Camas, WA), whose work utilizes a variety of techniques, including oil, collected earth, raw pigments, and oil sticks to create intensely textured paintings and sculptures. Tsytsyn is an internationally-exhibited artist holding a degree in Fine Art who makes painting and mixed media works that merge themes of identity, introspection and transformation. Rooted in Ecosomatics and inspired by nature, music, body and mysticism, Tsytsyn creates surreal, metaphysical, abstract landscapes and figurative work that reflect in the natural world our own inner landscape. Appearing both ethereal and visceral, Tsytsyn weaves together moods, motives and narratives to depict figures who reflect and dream, creating their sovereign worlds from the inside out. These abounding visions of unfolding self-actualizations are sometimes sheltered in the solitude of domestic space and other times liberated into landscapes. Influenced by history of immigration, shamanic teachings and cycles of the natural world, Tsytsyn’s work excavates the inner dimension to discover an existence where one’s sovereignty is in the here and now, sprung from the land itself, all connected as one. Tsytsyn runs a full-time studio practice based in the Pacific Northwest. Her work has been collected both domestically and internationally.
