Maria Aniskina

I paint from a sense of freedom. I do not want to be confined by a particular subject or theme. I paint what catches my eye, what I find beautiful, and what I want to see in the world around me.

My foundation is academic painting. My artistic education began at a specialized art school, where I studied Fine Art from the 5th through the 12th grade, followed by six years at the Moscow State Stroganov Academy of Design and Applied Arts, where I studied Interior Design and graduated in 2008.

Today, I work primarily in oil on canvas, creating landscapes, cityscapes, botanical works and other subjects that inspire me. What connects them is not a particular theme, but my approach to color and light. I am especially fascinated by the dialogue between warm light and cool shadow.

Color is where I allow myself the greatest freedom. In a world increasingly surrounded by neutral clothing and monochromatic interiors, I am drawn to the unapologetic richness of nature. I want my paintings to bring that richness into a space — with color that is vivid, unexpected and alive.
