BIO

Julia Borg is a Malta-based contemporary painter working primarily in oils, acrylics and mixed media. Her semi-abstract paintings transform recognisable subjects through saturated colour, layered textures and expressive brushwork, drawing on memory, emotion and intuition. Influenced by Impressionism, her practice has developed towards an increasingly loose and expressive approach to painting.

Born in Germany, Borg began her professional artistic practice in 2013, following an earlier career in engineering and interior design. Her move to Malta became an important influence on her work, with Mediterranean light, colour and landscape contributing to the development of her visual language.

Borg has presented four solo exhibitions in Malta and Gozo, including In Bloom and Inner Garden at The Phoenicia Malta, and has participated in group exhibitions and international art projects, including Art Connects Women by ZeeArts in Dubai and the Malta–Japan Art Festival in Valletta.

ARTIST STATEMENT

“I paint what stays within me...”

My paintings are shaped by memory, emotion and intuition. Rather than reproducing what I see, I transform recognisable subjects through colour, movement and expressive brushwork.

I work intuitively, allowing forms to shift between representation and abstraction. My subjects evolve, but the intention remains constant: to capture the feeling and impression that remain after the moment itself has passed.
