Harris Fanany

Harris is a self-taught artist whose work explores memory, place, and emotion through the language of abstraction. His fascination with landscape grew from his experiences sailing through the waters of East Nusa Tenggara—home to islands such as Sumba and Komodo—which left a lasting imprint on his creative vision.

Rather than depicting these landscapes directly, Harris channels their essence into his paintings. His work reflects longing, the quiet beauty of distant places, and the human connection to the natural world. Imperfection is as essential as harmony, with layered color and form inviting viewers to engage personally, drawing upon their own memories and emotions to complete the narrative.

Now based in Jakarta, Harris continues his full-time practice, creating paintings that evoke both introspection and wonder. His work offers an open-ended meditation on the landscapes—both internal and external—that have shaped his journey, encouraging viewers to slow down, remain present, and connect with the deeper emotions that emerge through art.
