My expressive line is the means, and abstract/figurative is the outcome.

Something happened in 2023. I went to Madrid.

When I returned to Copenhagen, I could fly.

I was fearless. I transformed the spare bedroom into a studio, painted it completely white — and started painting.

I am a-g is the artist name of Norwegian-born painter Anne-Grete Pettersen, based between Copenhagen and Madrid.

Drawing and painting have been her daily escape since the age of four. Today, that instinct has become a full-time artistic practice.

Her work explores the fluidity of so-called masculine and feminine, identity, human connection and contemporary life.

Expressive lines are at the heart of the work, moving freely between abstraction and figuration.

Paint, spray paint, charcoal, pastel, gloss and other materials become tools rather than rules.

Before becoming a full-time artist, Pettersen worked in marketing, technology and privacy. That background remains present in her work, particularly in her interest in how technology shapes human behaviour, relationships and our understanding of privacy.

In 2024, she presented her first major solo exhibition, #PrivacyMatters, at the Royal Library's Black Diamond in Copenhagen.
