VIKTOR CHOUCHKOV
Director | Photographer | Producer
Viktor Chouchkov is a Bulgarian film director, producer, and visual artist. His career in cinema began early—at age nine, he won the Special Jury Prize at the Moscow International Film Festival (1981) for his leading role in Yo-ho-ho by Zako Heskiya. He later trained as a visual artist at the National School of Fine Arts in Sofia and graduated in film directing from the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts (NATFA), studying under Acad. Lyudmil Staikov.
In 2003, together with his brother Borislav Chouchkov, he founded the production company Chouchkov Brothers, which has produced and co-produced over 19 internationally recognized films, including:
• Western by Valeska Grisebach (Cannes – Un Certain Regard)
• Son of Sofia by Elina Psykou (Tribeca – Best International Narrative)
• Why Me? by Tudor Giurgiu (Berlinale – Panorama)
Chouchkov’s feature debut TILT (2011) was selected at over 35 international festivals including Seattle, Palm Springs, Santa Barbara, Gothenburg, Jerusalem, Montreal, and Sofia IFF. The film won 14 awards, including Best Debut at Raindance and Best Director at the California Independent Film Festival, and was Bulgaria’s official submission to the Oscars...
