Kelly Ford

Greetings, my name is Kelly Ford and I have been painting surreal fantasy art for nearly thirty years. My art journey started back in 1997 after I was in a roll over accident that left me a quadriplegic. I was able to regain partial use of my arms and wrists. I have little dexterity in my fingers but developed a method of holding my paint brush with both hands to guide the paintbrush across the canvas using the movement of my wrists. I have to paint on a flat surface and have learned to paint upside down to work on larger canvases. I have to admit this was quite a challenge but, after you do it long enough you eventually get used to it. I am a self taught artist and I use acrylic paint as my medium. I was only nineteen when I was hurt and it was a very difficult time in my life. Thankfully, painting was a way I could escape my reality and create any fantasy world my mind could imagine. My art was my salvation, and set my imprisoned spirit free. In 2005 I had my daughter and took over a decade off from painting to spend every waking moment with my little girl. Once she became a teenager I started painting again.
