Contact us.Based in San Pedro, California a sleepy neighborhood in Los Angeles, I work out of an old 1920 warehouse. I often paint in the mornings, as i love the morning light that floods my space through the cracked old skylights. Frequently, I work in series. I like to go from canvas to canvas and by working on severall pieces at the same time I can keep the flow going for hours at the time.
My works represent a moment in time. Consisting of usually many layers of paint, i approach each layer as if it were a final painting, a painting that then gets covered up again with a new layer, just as the landscapes and situations we walk through in life change. One of my paintings, in fact, is several paintings, but you happen to see only the current one that sits on top.
I find inspiration in architecture, landscapes, wild postings, abandoned structures, shadow, reflections, music and so on.
When i set out on a new painting, i start with a clean canvas, literally and mentally. I try not to have a plan but let the canvas guide me along the journey.
My works are interpretations of what i see, or feel. Often they seem very real and permanent at that time, only to change again into something else. To me the layers that are not visible are just as important as that last layer that the viewer sees, as they add depth to the work, just as our experiences in life add depth and meaning to our individual stories.
