I was born in Edinburgh. However, I like to visit and live in other countries too when I can. I find the effort involved sharpens me up, every small transaction becomes interesting and difficult. You can't live on automatic pilot when you live outside your mother tongue. I find my observation and sensitivity heightened, which I think helps to make better art. My inspirations come from literature, theatre, other visual artists, particularly Giotto, Fra Angelico and the Flemish masters. I have made prints for many years, they are an integral part of my work. I specialize in silkscreen, but am currently using collagraph and lithography to expand my skills. I find using various media enriches my work, each medium feeds in to another. and learning a new technique keeps you curious and open to new ideas.
I studied Drawing, Painting and Printmaking at Edinburgh College of Art in the 1980's.
I have had many shows all over the world, including Czech Republic, Japan, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland and France. Last year I was a prizewinner in The Tokyo Screenprint Biennale. My work is in many private and public collections here and abroad.
