David Manners

David lives and works in the Dorset town of Lyme Regis.

Having spent many years teaching mathematics to university level, he came to painting only twelve years ago after a long period of ill-health.

He is entirely self-taught and paints solely in oils finding his inspiration in all things maritime and particularly mans’ interaction with the sea.

In spite of having painted for only a few years, David’s story has led to unexpected successes and has his own gallery in the USA, a shared one in Durango, Mexico and has featured in US TV documentary about is extraordinary story and has his artwork frequently used by the film industry.

"I am a contemporary realist painter inspired by the timeless traditions of classical art. My work combines meticulous technique with a modern sensibility, exploring the delicate relationship between light, form, and atmosphere. From expansive landscapes to intimate portraits and still lifes, my paintings invite viewers to pause and reflect on the beauty within everyday moments.
Rooted in realism yet infused with contemporary clarity, my art seeks not only to depict the world but to evoke mood, depth, and emotion".
