Valerie Belmokhtar

Valérie Belmokhtar is a French artist who lives and works in Paris.
She graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Paris (Ensba) and the Olivier de Serres School (art and crafts). Her paintings, drawings and etchings are often inspired by tales, mythology, literature or sensations in relation to the living. She works from mental visions, memories, readings and the unconscious but also from art history or poems.
Her work mixes the real and the imaginary. She creates works imbued with magic, with the supernatural. The myths, and in particular Ovid’s metamorphoses, are sources of inspiration that allow him to address contemporary issues by diverting representations of the past.
Revisiting myths and questioning them in an ever-renewed vision is also a way to further connect with the living and others, through the narratives that have shaped us.
Her work is part of a search for contemporary visual poetry and a sensitive representation of the world that connects humans to their environment.
