Nicholas Paul Kormendy

I was born in 1950 Budapest, Hungary. My parents escaped during the Hungarian uprising in 1956 and we settled in England. I now reside on the Isle of Man and live the life I only dreamt about for 44 years! I was the founder member of a rock band (The Rising) here on the Island. I raced motorbikes and after racing at the Manx Grand Prix in 1990, I fell in 'love' and moved to the Isle of Man four years later. I am now divorced but still in love, with the Isle of Man. I paint mainly landscapes, animals and still life in oils and water colour. I also photograph the same subjects. My inspiration is all around me, living here on the beautiful Isle of Man.

Due to a progressive but not life threatening illness I will be moving to Cyprus in autumn 2011 but will return to the hills of the Isle of Man on a regular basis, as it is a 'drug' I cannot kick.

My formal education was a disaster but made amends after leaving school. I went to art college but lost interest drawing and so took up music instead. I have a ONC in electronic engineering and became a CAD (Computer Aided Design) Engineer. I am now a self-employed painter and decorator/consultant, specialising in the renovation of old buildings and barn conversions. I have not exhibited my paintings since my school days. I prefer to give my 'work' away or auction them for various charitable causes.
