Amy-Leigh Bird is an accomplished artist who finds beauty in the overlooked. As a printmaker and sculptor, she draws inspiration from objects found in nature, particularly those collected from beaches and riversides. Bird’s practice involves gathering items such as cuttlebones, bones, teeth, shells, and other forms of beach detritus, objects often overlooked or discarded. Through the meticulous process of photopolymer etching, she reveals the intricate beauty and unique characteristics of these materials.
Bird's art challenges viewers to see the world around them in a new light, highlighting the hidden elegance in everyday objects. By presenting these found items in a new context, she invites a deeper appreciation for the natural environment and the often unnoticed details it holds. Her work is a celebration of the unexpected beauty in the ordinary, encouraging a renewed respect for the world we inhabit. Amy-Leigh Bird’s creations are a testament to the notion that art can be found everywhere, even in the most unlikely places.
