I’m MYK (Michael Martin), a classically trained Statement Artist who paints life in bold contrast. My work blends Baroque drama, Expressionist honesty, and the energy of urban art. Faces and subtle gestures are central to my practice—the tension in the jaw, the glance of an eye, the unspoken movements that reveal emotion, thought, and truth.

For 30 years, I built a successful logistics business across Europe, meeting professional people and showcasing my art in boardrooms and meeting areas throughout our commercial buildings. This was where I began selling work and realised that art would be my future. After selling the business, I turned fully to painting, making Myks.studio my creative sanctuary.

I paint each piece in three distinct layers:

Charcoal: the mask we show the world.
Acrylics: peeling back to reveal who we truly are.

Leaving school at nineteen freed me from the constraints of formal education and the challenges of dyslexia. I embarked on a self-directed path of learning, enriched by independent study and two years of local training in classical drawing and painting. Baroque art, with its bold drama, emotional intensity, and powerful contrasts, has deeply shaped my creative approach. Drawing inspiration from the masters, I reinterpret their techniques through a contemporary lens, seeking to infuse my work with visual depth and layered storytelling.

After hosting my own exhibition at the Holme Centre in Frankfurt, I received a commission to create a collection of 12 pieces for a commercial space near London.
