Carolyn Macleod

Carolyn is a contemporary artist whose practice is rooted in a lifelong connection to making, inspired by the sewing and knitting traditions passed down through generations of women in her family. Her love of materials evolved into a fine art practice after studying at UCA Farnham and continues to deepen. Working primarily with oil paint, Carolyn embraces an experimental, intuitive approach that blends techniques like pouring, stitching, scraping, and collage. Her work explores themes of memory, emotion, and sensory experience - often drawing on influences from nature, family, literature, and art history-to create layered, expressive pieces that blur the boundaries of traditional fine art. She uses colour as a way of expressing emotion and how she feels about her subject, be it trees, flora, family, landscape or remembering her early life growing up in Devon surrounded by Dartmoor and the coast.
