What I love most of watercolor is its spontaneous character. Impressionistic and impredictable, sometimes wild. As a wild animal with its instincts and beauty. This what I want to discover and this is what I feel about it. All these incredible effects which can be released from the medium. The very ...

Dina Aseeva defines her practice through the phrase “Not an artist — a mark maker.” Living between sea and earth, she works primarily in motion: at sea, on boats, along isolated coasts and islands. Her watercolours and drawings are created in wind, salt, shifting weather and constant transition — conditions that shape the work as much as the materials themselves. Rather than representing landscapes, Aseeva focuses on presence. Each mark becomes a trace of an encounter: a brief point where soul, place and paper meet. Her vocabulary is intentionally minimal — horizons, repetitions, subtle gradients, muted colour fields — allowing the viewer to experience not the place itself but the state it evokes. Her works can be read as diaries of movement and attention. They map crossings, coastlines and atmospheric states rather than physical geography. Stones, waves and light appear not as motifs but as partners in a quiet dialogue, shaping the rhythm and restraint of her marks. Aseeva’s practice aligns with contemporary conceptual authors whose work dissolves the boundaries between art, environment and lived experience. She positions herself not through the role of “artist” but through the act of marking — registering the world as it passes through her, one distilled gesture at a time.
