Nadine Hardy is a French contemporary artist whose work explores human presence through abstraction, with a particular focus on light, colour, relief and materiality.
Working primarily with acrylic on wood, she creates abstract and semi-abstract paintings in which fragmented forms, layered colour and rhythmic gestures suggest silhouettes, traces and echoes of human presence. Her compositions balance structure and dissolution, allowing figures to emerge without being literally represented.
Colour plays a central role in her work. Deep blues, gold, silver and iridescent tones interact with matte and reflective surfaces, creating a constantly changing relationship with light. Her paintings appear at once flat and spatial, inviting the eye to move across their layered surfaces.
Alongside these colourful works, Hardy has developed a distinctive body of white-on-white relief paintings, in which colour gives way to texture, depth, shadow and light. Forms emerge gradually from the monochromatic surface, revealing themselves through subtle variations in relief and illumination.
Rather than depicting a specific reality, Hardy seeks to evoke a presence, an atmosphere or an inner state, leaving space for the viewer’s own interpretation.
