Henry Dawnay

I'm an artist in many styles , i like expressionism creating works that express my feelings on some subject like my own self portrait .I have come to realise that to create a certain idea I must use different techniques to get there . Even a photograph is uncontrollable and this is whats beautiful , I think a painting can be more realistic than a photo .Thus it is not the death of painting but another facet to the medium . Even copying a photograph is impossible often because the painter must change the reality to suit his vision .

I did art at O level and A level then head out to Italy to study painting in Florence .Before Florence i had absolutely no idea how to paint in any medium . In Florence I was trained in oil painting and drawing based on the french atelier styles .
I returned to England where i worked for Christies auction house as an art handler , this involved hanging and looking after paintings and sculpture .In this time i saw a lot of different styles from Old Master to Contemporary and consequently i experimented , selling many works . Now i am a professional artist as it were and have painted portraits on commission using a palette knife oil technique i have perfected .

I have exhibited at the royal society of portrait painters and have exhibited and sold work at Christies auction house ,both in auction and charity auction, the Sea View gallery on the Isle of Wight , The Chelsea art society .
I have exhibited at Gallery 54 Mayfair for several years as well as having a one man show .
I have also sold at Roseberrys Auction house .
My pictures also are exhibited at The Goya restaurant in Pimlico London , where i have also sold .
