“Paint what only you can see” is what I pursue. Not so much what is invisible to others, but what is overlooked. Two of my recent fascinations are Key West World War 1 waterfront security pass photos and ads from a 1970s hippie newspaper.
Exploring these kinds of subjects becomes an obsession. The composition and color evolve with the image and pick up speed as it comes alive and starts to show me what it wants.
Collections of my work have been published recently as fine art books: "Faces of Old Key West 1918," "Solares Hill - The Story of the Early Years of Bill Huckel's Key West Hippie Newspaper," and "The Grove Scroll - A Walk Around Downtown Coconut Grove in 1971." All are available at any bookstore.
Studied art at Miami-Dade College and Art Center College of Design.
One-man show at The Studios of Key West in February 2024. Previously exhibited at Kendall Art Center, Miami, East Martello Museum and Guild Hall Gallery, Key West. My work is also in the permanent collection of HistoryMiami Museum and 21C Museum Hotel, Louisville.
