Blair Russell

I’m Blair Edward Russell (born December 16, 1979), a Canadian-American contemporary painter whose work bridges the calm discipline of my northern upbringing with the bold, dynamic energy of South Florida’s thriving art scene. Raised near Toronto and now based in Miami, I draw on this duality to create a distinctive visual language—one defined by expressive movement, refined minimalism, and a modern approach to both figurative and abstract forms.

I graduated from York University in Toronto in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, a foundation that deepened my understanding of art history and helped sharpen my creative voice. My work is meaningfully influenced by many great artists of both the past and present, including Willem de Kooning, Pablo Picasso, Gerhard Richter, and Peter Doig. Their innovations in form, color, and gestural expression continue to inspire and inform my evolving practice.
