Carol's work is nourished by a continuous examination of the self: how we come to understand who we are, how we carry our origins with us, and the fears that accompany displacement, migration, and belonging. Her upbringing in the Dominican Republic, as well as her migratory experience in Canada, has allowed her to create work that moves between cultural memory, vulnerability, and resilience. Questions of preservation—of people, of place, of identity—are central to her research. She engages with these questions by visually echoing natural materials from her home country, such as amber and yuca, reimagining them as vessels for memory and cultural continuity.
