Emily Veldman

Through painting and sculpture, Los Angeles-based world builder Emily Veldman captures the narratives of her expansive fictional land. In her work, she creates imaginary safe spaces as a method of healing and coping with mental health.
Her world is an escape from the harsh realities of adulthood. In the blank space on the canvas, she blocks out the responsibilities and anxieties of adulthood and replaces them with a colorful fantasy landscape. The stage is set with patterns, bright colors, and composition. By combining these elements the audience is transported to an altered Los Angeles where personified flowers and animals live and play.

Veldman has her Bachelor of Fine Art in Illustration from Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids, Michigan and her Master of Arts Management from Columbia College Chicago in Chicago, Illinois. Besides showcasing her artwork, she has also been an exhibition coordinator and organized and curated exhibitions and events in both Grand Rapids and Chicago.
