Patric Binda

I was born in Basel in 1970. Even as a small child, drawing and painting were my favourite pastimes – and I’ve never stopped…
After spending most of my life in Zurich, I moved back to Basel in 2012, where I work as an independent artist.
I’ve set up my workshop in Basel’s last historical photographic studio. The glasshouses on the roofs of photo studios, which allowed photographers to take pictures using daylight, were a typical urban architectural feature in the early days of industrialisation. Regrettably, most of them have disappeared. It is a rare privilege to be able to use one of them as a workshop.
The light-flooded room offers excellent conditions for painting. No one can be indifferent to the atmosphere of this room, which has been a setting for the production of images for over 120 years.

During the Art Basel 2014 I exhibit my Morphelets – The Darwin Age at the restaurant Käfer Stuben in the building of the Basel Trade Fair.
