Horace Panter

I suppose my life is defined by being the bassist with The Specials. However, I am also a trained artist and art has played a big role in my life, not least spending 10 years as an art teacher. The paintings here are based on my ideas about traditional iconography, portraying, as they do, a single monolithic figure offered up for adoration! Rules of perspective and chiascuro are thrown out of the window in favour of a 'written icon' (like graffiti) and fused with a naive painterly style as an homage to Henri Rousseau, but also influenced by the the tenets of Pop Art.
