RECOGNITION

'Nick Pearson is a creative 'fence', filching objects from the real world and subtly redesignating them before palming them off on the viewer. Snatching conversational fragments and kidnapping the lives of redundant objects he baldly re-presents them as items that promise both utility and decoration but deliver neither.'
- Vic Allen, Arts Director Dean Clough Galleries

'Often, the biggest creative decision is in the choice, or recognition of the object in the first place. The rest comes with living with the object, doing something to it then reacting to the effect of that first intervention. I like to follow Jasper Johns dictum, during which meaning begins to become clearer to me or forms itself out of the process.
Take an object
Do something to it
Do something else to it'
