I explore movement and color interactions in my work by intuitively arranging and layering abstract forms. My art therapy background has informed my open-minded and intuitive approach to creating. After placing the first shape, I indulge in the freedom of improvisation, each subsequent shape seeking to balance the previous one. I embrace the challenge of responding to “mistakes” in the process, rather than adhering to a rigid plan. I believe in the healing power of art and the importance of a creative practice for all individuals, which is what I seek through my own work. My artwork is also influenced by motherhood. The contrast of fluid, calming shapes and bold colors mirrors the experience of early motherhood: highs, lows, chaos, beauty. The shapes dance across the paper, representing constant movement or perhaps even a journey, and seek to find balance and harmony amongst one another.
I currently work as an art therapist. I studied at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, and then moved to the SF Bay Area to work at the state hospital in Napa for five years. I now have my own art therapy practice in Walnut Creek, CA. I currently show my artwork at City Art Co-op Gallery in SF.
