Berthe Marie Pauline Morisot, born January 14, 1841 in Bourges and died March 2, 1895 in Paris 16th, is a French painter, founding member and dean of the avant-garde movement that was Impressionism.
She is in the Impressionist group, respected by her comrades and admired. At her table are her brother-in-law Édouard Manet, who is the most worldly, Edgar Degas, the most shady, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, the most sociable, and Claude Monet, the most independent of the group. Stéphane Mallarmé introduced him to his writer friends.
Berthe Morisot was a "rebel". Turning her back at a very young age on the academic teaching of the Lyon painter Chocarne, she founded with Claude Monet, Auguste Renoir, Alfred Sisley, Camille Pissarro and Edgar Degas the avant-garde group "Artistes Anonymes Associés", which was to become the Société Anonyme des Artistes Peintres, Sculptors and Engravers grouping together the Impressionists. Her desire to break with tradition, the transcendence of her models, and her talent made her "the great lady of painting".
