Edith Bingham

I have been drawing and painting since early childhood, with support and encouragement from family and friends. I studied figure drawing and painting at the Boston Museum School, and went on to work in illustration, portraiture and fine art. I have worked in pen and pencil, watercolor, gouache, oil and egg tempera. My most recent interest is in still life, exploring shape, color, texture, light and dark. I am working in a theme of "Animal, vegetable, mineral" where I am feeling challenged and excited. Since my training was in a classical style in realism, I am always looking at the world around me, taking in the gifts that this beautiful earth has given to us. I live in western Massachusetts, with my husband, and children and grandchildren near and far.

I went to a Quaker high school with an excellent art department, then studied at the Boston Museum School. Since then I have taken courses at various community colleges in New Hampshire and California, taking classes in art history, bookbinding, painting, and illustration. I have most recently taken classes in egg tempera with Koo Schadler.
