Gareb Shamus

Gareb has been immersed in, surrounded by and driven by the insatiable desire to create his whole life. This manifested itself in many different forms, however his passion has always been paint. As is the challenge for all painters, how does he innovate, be part of, or even instigate evolution in painting. In his current body of work, rather than look at the what he can do with the paint when it’s on the surface, he looked at how to deliver and apply the paint in a way that allowed him to be exact, methodical and precise (such as the technique of Rothko, Newman, Mondrian), and a way that also allowed a texture and weight that you usually only see with heavy impasto. He developed a delivery technique using his own design of apparatus to create works that are bold vibrant and accessible, but on closer inspection, challenge the viewer as to the origin and mechanics of the actual painting process.
