Laurence Moracchini

I was born in Paris. Now I live and work in Le Vésinet, in the Yvelines area of France, where I have opened a gallery and studio in 2017.
My favourite subject is the portrayal of landscapes. The abstract is always present in my work to a greater or lesser degree depending on the series of paintings. I would define my work as “abstract representation”. I like to inspire each person’s imagination so that they can experience the landscape in their own way, in a way which belongs only to them.
My paintings never have an evocative title, just a reference, which allows complete freedom in their interpretation.
Each canvas I begin is an adventure. When I work I release my emotions in layers of colour, one on top of the other; it is a sort of dialogue with the canvas.
Generally (undoubtedly to escape from the anxiety caused by the blank canvas) I begin my paintings with large swathes of black, scraping and allowing the paint to run down. Then I rapidly apply the layers of colour, it is the hand which expresses the spirit of the work. My paintings are often completely transformed from one day to the next.
